The Case for Wellness: Why Employee Health Matters to Your Bottom Line
There has never been a more compelling or crucial time to drive the message of wellness than right now. According to the United States Department of Labor, in 2008 health care spending rose 9 percent – to $2.4 trillion. For perspective, that was more than twice the consumer inflation rate of 3.8 percent. In addition, the Dartmouth Atlas reports that New Jersey has the highest spending in the nation ($59,379 per patient) on chronically ill Medicare patients in the last six months of life. While addressing this trend will require many different steps, lowering costs through improving individual wellness can - and should - be an integral part of that solution. In the presentation, The Case for Wellness, the three main health risks are addressed. These risks include obesity, smoking and chronic disease. The Case for Wellness then gives employers ideas they can implement in the workplace that encourage a healthy lifestyle. AmeriHealth New Jersey is committed to improving the health of people in New Jersey and is uniquely focused on meeting the specific needs of New Jersey-based employers by offering innovative wellness programs and solutions.
