Most accounting students get insight as to what their careers in public accounting will look like the first years out of school, whether they have an interest in tax or audit. But, as their careers develop they may find other opportunities to change their focus from servicing “outside” clients and transition to serving “internal” clients. Firms of all sizes need to develop resources to provide support for their other partners and staff and individuals find that they have a desire to provide this service to their own firms. In the larger firms these services are provided through a national office and in smaller firms these services are often sought externally.
